To screen novel antibiotics, large diversity libraries and combinations of existing drugs against Wolbachia and filarial nematodes.

The major activities under the Library Screening core will be to screen an existing chemical library of tetracycline (TC) derivatives and high throughput screening of existing drug combinations.
The libraries will be initially screened against Wolbachia cultures using doxycycline as a “gold standard”. Compounds showing improved and/or more rapid efficacy will be selected for further development through the screening process against nematodes.
Screens against nematodes in culture are under development to define the optimised screening strategy to identify anti-Wolbachia efficacy. Screens include microfilarial and adult worm screens from Brugia and Onchocerca parasites.
